In a complex risk environment, Swiss Re’s role is more important than ever. It extends far beyond traditional risk transfer. Our product suite, insights and solutions, and data and analytics capabilities empower clients to take control of their risks, innovate and improve performance. That is what we mean by Partnering for Progress.
How we do it
At Swiss Re we leverage our strengths as we put our clients at the centre of everything we do:
We have a globally diversified business, with three Business Units: Property & Casualty Reinsurance, Corporate Solutions and Life & Health Reinsurance. All three businesses are core. Our balance between lines of business and regions provides significant diversification benefits from a capital efficiency perspective.
We have a strong capital position with a Group SST ratio well above our target range of 200-250%.
Underwriting risk knowledge is fundamental to our success. For example, we have more than 50 full-time scientists working on around 200 proprietary nat cat models, while our Life & Health underwriting manual Life Guide is consistently ranked number 1 by the industry.
Our client franchise is supported by the long-lasting relationships and direct engagements we have with our clients throughout the year.
A journey to close the gap to #1
We are on a four-phase journey to close the gap to #1 through being a performance driven, bottom-line focused underwriting company, supported by a lean and efficient Group setup that serves our core business.
For clients, it means superior technical expertise, insights and speed of decisions.
For investors, it means delivering on our financial targets consistently
For employees, it means feeling proud to work for a leading company and being rewarded as such
With significant progress in the first two phases, we are now in phase three, enhancing our core business and bringing to the fore the potential we have within Swiss Re today. That includes four themes:
Technical excellence: Our focus ranges from delivering on our technical ambition, pushing for selective growth avenues, to elevating underwriting excellence by simplifying processes and governance.
Data & Technology: With the ever-increasing pace of digitalization this will bring benefits for our clients as well as enabling us to be more efficient as an organisation. We are further sharpening our data & tech capabilities so that we can better serve the needs of the core business.
People & Talent: Our people are our most important asset. We foster an environment that enables learning and development, while also being able to anticipate and prepare for future talent needs.
Culture: The right culture is fundamental for our success and our focus is on being quick, simple and effective – with strong business drive. This includes ensuring the Group is most effectively serving the needs of the core business.
In the fourth phase, Swiss Re's longer-term strategy will be defined; this will come in the second half of 2025.
